Who we are *

Abnormal Builds started the way most buildings do: with a rough plan and a vision that refused to stay on paper.

After nearly two decades leading complex developments across every scale - from retail rollouts to skyline-changing towers - I’ve seen how the system works, where it breaks, and how it could be better.

Abnormal Builds is my next evolution: a hands-on development company focused on infill multifamily projects in San Diego and, eventually, anywhere bold ideas belong. We’re creating places with personality, for the people who don’t fit neatly into boxes. For the weirdos, the makers, the bold ones who want more than “normal.”

We’re not here to copy what’s been done or repeat the past. We’re here to reimagine what urban living can feel like, designed with grit, soul, and a little more humanity.

This is a company built by experience but driven by curiosity. Some pieces are still forming (which project comes first, which partnership clicks) but the direction is set: develop great buildings that stand out, make sense, and make noise.

Because doing things differently isn’t a risk.
It’s the whole point.

This is Abnormal Builds.
Still small. Already loud.
And just getting started.

the foundation

Every story has a foundation. This is where mine was poured. I’ve built at every level. Each phase pushed me harder, taught me more, and sharpened the edge I bring today.

Retail Development (2001–2009)
Rolling out Hustler retail stores nationwide. Bold. Fast. Unapologetic.
Lesson: deliver under pressure and lead diverse teams.

Education (2009–2015)
Sharpening the tools.
BA, Urban Studies & Planning – UC San Diego
Master of Construction Management – NewSchool

Tenant Improvements (2010–2017)
Scrappy, creative projects that taught resourcefulness over resources. Lesson: small spaces and tight budgets teach precision and creativity in equal measure

High-Rise Development (2017–2022)
From 222 units of market-rate housing to 407 units of supportive housing delivered mid-pandemic.
Lesson: scale, resilience, leadership.

Midrise Multifamily (2022–Present)
Now leading 8-story projects across Uptown San Diego, each with its own voice.
Lesson: great buildings don’t just fill a site, they define a neighborhood.

What It Adds Up To

My path has spanned owner’s rep, builder, and developer, giving me a complete view of how projects take shape, and how to push them further.

That foundation became Abnormal Builds: a future-facing, design-driven developer built for what comes next in San Diego’s urban core.

We’re here to make the city we live in more interesting, one infill project at a time.
